Rebecca L. Coleman is a rare combination of talent, professional experience, and a natural born teacher. Her decision to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts in Costuming, at this point in her career, examples Rebecca’s commitment to the Arts and her own personal goals of expansion.
Rebecca’s talent as a designer is evident throughout her portfolio. Her extensive professional experience has honed her communication skills between Designers, Directors, Stage Managers, Choreographers, Performers, and Costume Shop Personnel, and provided her a successful career over nearly two decades. Her research skills are the best I’ve seen. I am privileged to have witnessed Rebecca’s latest talent discovery as a teacher.
Rebecca has successfully taught Intermediate Costume Construction, Makeup I and will be teaching Makeup II in the spring semester. She has also taught Stagecraft Labs for two semesters and lectured frequently (often at the last minute) covering all aspects of Costuming/ Hair/Makeup. She has been TA in Draping, Flat Patterning & Drafting, Textiles Painting & Dying, Tailoring, and Costume History. Rebecca will be teaching a special edition of Textiles Painting & Dying in spring semester. I am looking forward to being her TA so we can learn from each other.
Her students are relaxed and respectful. She has that needed ability to be personable and professional at the same time. Rebecca’s students work hard in her classes and she teaches her students how to teach others, therefore, spreading the knowledge and love for the Art of Costuming.
I have every confidence in Rebecca’s talents, professionalism, and teaching abilities. I’m thrilled to have her join the world of teaching. I know she will be a solid addition to your Program.
Sincerely,
Laura Alvarez
